Description
Itinerary:
Calgary - Johnston Canyon (75 mins) - Banff Gondola (at your own expense, 90 mins) - Banff Town: Hoodoos / Bow Falls / Surprise Corner
Depart in the early morning and head for Banff National Park, Canada’s oldest national park. As the drive winds deeper into the mountainous terrain, grasslands give way to towering mountains, marking the official entry into the heart of the Canadian Rockies.
First, visit Johnston Canyon, one of the three major canyons in the Rockies. Hike along the trails deep into the canyon to get up-close views of crystal-clear streams and cascading waterfalls. (In the event of park maintenance or other force majeure circumstances, the itinerary will be adjusted to Lake Minnewanka and Two Jack Lake instead.) Afterwards, proceed to Banff Town, where you will have free time for lunch. You may choose local restaurants or cafs to soak up the laid-back vibe of this mountain park town. In the afternoon, ride the Banff Gondola (at your own expense) up Sulphur Mountain for sweeping panoramic vistas of the Bow River Valley, Banff Town and the endless mountain ranges. Overnight stay at a hotel in Banff.
After descending the mountain, stop by the Hoodoos to view the unique rock spires shaped by natural erosion. Next, visit Bow Falls to witness the powerful rush of churning water cascading down. The final stop is Surprise Corner, offering distant views of the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel and the Bow River, bringing a leisurely close to the day’s itinerary. -
