  The real name of Kinkakuji Temple is Luyuan Temple. Because the outer walls of the core building of the temple, the Relic Hall, are all decorated with gold foil, it is nicknamed "Kinkakuji Temple". The temple was originally built in 1397 as the villa of General Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (the prototype of General Toshi in the anime "Smart Ikkyu"), and was later changed to the "Bodhi Temple" of the Zen temple.
